De Vere Theobalds Estate

Sample a traditional English afternoon tea in the refined surroundings of a historic Georgian mansion.

Now a luxury hotel, De Vere Theobalds Estate is steeped in history, with a sweeping driveway and manicured lawns within 55 acres of woodland. Afternoon tea includes the traditional menu of finger sandwiches, scones with jam and cream and a selection of cakes or pastries – as well as a glass of sparkling wine. As with all menus at De Vere Theobalds Estate, it uses farm-fresh ingredients. The estate dates back to 1441 but at its centre is the 18th-century Georgian mansion house which features battlements, towering turrets, elegant arched windows and a warm red brick façade. Guests can enjoy the historic features within the newly-refurbished mansion house which include oak panelled walls and feature fire places. The house was home to many dignitaries, lords and ladies before being used as a base for the Metropolitan Police’s riding training school and later a school. It became a hotel and conference centre in 1995. Gardens & Gourmet passholders are welcome to explore the grounds after taking advantage of their offer on afternoon tea at Theobalds Estate. The hotel has a Courtyard Restaurant and Temple Bar and 140 bedrooms spread across the estate, should you wish to stay in this area of Hertfordshire longer.

The Gardens & Gourmet offer
